A Time to Share-Update

As was posted earlier, our congregation is actively contemplating our future, through a pair of discussions. The first, held during fellowship hour on July 27th, focussed on the issues of : deeper engagement and participation in the life of the church by our members; expanded mission beyond our congregation; a new statement of purpose; and what is Westminster called to be in 2020? The discussions were open and honest and much was shared that will be meaningful as we work together to determine our church's direction.

The next set of discussions will be held during fellowship hour this Sunday, August 3rd. The topics for this set of discussions will be: growth in active membership, and strengthened finance. Please join us and contribute your ideas and share your concerns as, together, we chart Westminster's path for the future.

Pizza Party!

On Sunday, July 20th, our fellowship hour was turned into a pizza party to celebrate the harvest of the church "pizza garden." The herbs used were grown right here at Westminster by our dedicated volunteer gardeners. The bountiful harvest was then turned into delicious and varied pizzas by our volunteer chefs.

Special thanks goes to Brocato’s Italian Market in the Finlay Market in Cincinnati and the Saturday morning market in Yellow Springs, who gave us a great deal on the pizza dough and the sauce. And now you know where to go for supplies if you'd like to replicate that spectacular meal!

Ladies' Get-together-July 2014

During this summer, the ladies of Westminster having been gathering at local venues to enjoy a time of good food and fellowship. July's gathering took place at "The Dock" in Enon on July 17th. If the pictures are anything to judge by, the ladies had a very good time!

The next gathering will be on August 21st at 6 pm at Mimi's Cafe at The Greene. All ladies of the congregation are invited to attend. It'll be fun---we promise!

A Time to Share (Sunday July 27 and August 3)

For the past three months our Session has prayed and talked about what Westminster is becoming.  We have both hopes and plans for our future.  Now it is time to include everyone in the conversation.  Starting on Sunday July 27 during coffee hour following worship and on the following Sunday August 3, we invite everyone (that includes YOU) to share with us in small groups your hopes and ideas in response to two sets of questions.

First, describe the congregation that God is calling Westminster to be in the year 2020.  What does it look like, act like, who is there, how does it do what it does?

Second, what are your ideas for how the church can strengthen its ministry in four specific areas: (1.) Growth in active membership; (2.) Strengthened finance; (3.) Deeper engagement and participation in the life of the church by our members; and, (4.) Expanded mission beyond our congregation.

Every one of us has some portion of the Spirit’s intention for our church.  In order for us to follow faithfully, we need to share together.  That means we need you.  Please come and share on July 27 and August 3 as we work together to fulfill God’s hope for Westminster.

Special Presbytery Meeting--You Are Invited

Worship and GA Reports--July 22

The presbytery's Leadership Council invites you to join us for a special presbytery meeting on July 22, an evening filled with abundant music praising our Lord, worship, and a chance to hear reports from the commissioners and the young adult advisory delegate we elected from our presbytery to the 221st General Assembly in Detroit.

At this July 22 presbytery meeting, at 7:00 p.m. at Corinth Presbyterian Church,  4269 Corinth Blvd., Dayton 45410, the Leadership Council is preparing a Spirit-filled worship time that will surround the personal reflections of our commissioners and advisory delegate on their experiences faithfully serving at General Assembly. In addition to congregational singing, a special choir under the direction of Terrence Grimes will lead our musical time. Come early at 6:50 for pre-meeting music, and stay for fellowship after the meeting.

Worshiping together reminds us of those many things that unify us as a covenant community, no matter what our views on some of GA's important decisions. All are truly welcome to join in praise as we continue discerning our response to God's call.
